Eve, Tom & Baby Erin

"We live in Hong Kong and I wanted to have as natural a birth as possible, so a little late on in my pregnancy I started researching hypnobirthing.

We began the online hypnobirthing course with Danielle and still had another session left but, at 37.5 weeks, my waters started to leak and I was admitted to hospital. We decided that opting for an induction was the right choice for us.

Luckily Danielle had already sent me her hypnobirthing videos and relaxation MP3s before all this happened.

I really liked the idea of hypnobirthing and keeping the whole experience as natural as possible. However, since we were going to be induced, I was glad that Danielle had explained how hypnobirthing can be used and adapted for different people in different situations, no matter what kind of birth it is. This was really reassuring to think of, whilst waiting to be induced later that day.

My labour lasted 12 hours in total. I genuinely believe that some key hypnobirthing tools are what helped me get through it. The most effective one for me was imagining the contractions as a wave, very natural flowing in and releasing. I was able to get through a lot of my contractions with this visualisation.

After 8 hours I was dilated 2.5cm and struggled to keep my positive, calm state of mind. We decided I would have a shot of Pethidine to take me back to that relaxed place. It worked and within another 4 hours our daughter was born.

For me the mix of hypnobirthing and some pain relief worked really well. The main focus was working towards our goal of staying calm and relaxed. Hypnobirthing and the techniques we learned from Danielle’s classes, definitely helped us to achieve this."
